Pheeroan akLaff

Creative music and theater in New York for over thirty years.
Teaching American Drum-set to University students for twenty years.

Residencies in musicianship / Workshops in Rhythm Adaption

  • The sensation of percussion; historic and present uses, rhythm, nomenclatur
  • Music in social evolution; the American Drum-set in 20th Century music
  • Receptivity and contextualization; environmental sound, symbolism
As an improviser in music performance I have taught students to prepare for the unexpected as well as for the coherency in performance.  I have witnessed a wealth of results from the unique way in which music enriches. It is through this lens that I continue with a positive perspective on the far-reaching uses of music in health and fortitude.
